About
An experienced composer and arranger, accomplished multi-instrumentalist, and award-winning musician, The Mighty Ship is Fredericton, New Brunswick's Rick Morgan. He has had an extensive and varied musical career whose highlights include: performing for both the current and former monarch, playing on the same bill as Bonnie Tyler, Melanie Doane, Peter Jacobs, Lennie Gallant, Blue Rodeo's Jim Cuddy, and Great Big Sea's Séan McCann, having his recordings played on radio programs and podcasts in Canada, The United States, France, The United Kingdom, The Republic of Ireland, as well as both writing and performing some of the original music heard on The Music of Dundurn - A Musical Anthology of the Life and Times of Sir Allan Napier MacNab.
When the pandemic struck in March of 2020, it not only severed Rick from local musical connection and collaboration, it also negated his ability to return home to the sights and sounds of Atlantic Canada. As a coping mechanism, he launched a creative voyage to reconnect with his musical and cultural roots. Using his multi-instrumentalist abilities, he began recording himself playing numerous loops that he combined to create master backing track MP3s for some of his favourite Celtic music from the old world and the new. He also "Celtifies" covers of popular songs from the 1950s to the 1970s. Acting as his own "backing musicians" playing these pre-recorded parts, he sings and plays guitar live in unison. The result is a full and diverse sound, so if you enjoy a hand-clappin', toe-tappin', foot-stompin' good time, get on board with The Mighty Ship today!
